My writing on Storytelling Interconnectedness [my workshop series on speculative climate fictions and digital maps] is now published in The Place Bureau's Natural Futures Report that explores human spaces and the natural world. Storytelling Interconnectedness situates climate stories in the real and imaginary: what does it mean to upload speculative fictions as mapped data points? How can we geolocate the uncertainties we feel about our changing environments over time?

'The Art(s) of Science: Grace L. Dillon and Angela YT Chan on Speculative co-futures, conversation published in Revisions: Vol 1 for re:arc institute'

My conversation with renowned science fiction scholar and author Grace L. Dillon is now published in Revisions: Vol 1 by re:arc institute. Grace 'is best known for coining the term Indigenous Futurism, which is a movement consisting of art, literature and other forms of media which express Indigenous perspectives of the past, present and future in the context of science fiction and related sub-genres.' We talked about power, narratives, collaborations and much more.

'Storytelling Interconnectedness: geolocating our climate histories and speculative stories as data in virtual and real landscapes' now in the publication Futuring Waters: A Speculative Manifesto from and for the Waters of Eleusina

My essay reflects on my workshop series 'Storytelling Interconnectedness' (2022-2023) that explores speculative climate timelines through digital mapping. I delivered workshop iterations for Futuring Waters by Jenny Marketou between 15-17th June 2023 as part of the 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture in Elefsina, Greece.

States of Hydration Essay and Illustrated Collage Series Published in Holding Sway: Seaweeds and the Politics of Form UCHRI

Holding Sway is a 'series of photo essays channels a visual curiosity about seaweeds with considerations of militarization, gender, Indigenous sovereignty, extractive regimes, and climate change.' Invited by Foundry journal guest editors Melody Jue and Maya Weeks, I wrote an essay and created five accompanying illustrated collages that consider seaweeds through elementality and politics. Inspired by computer simulated satellite imagery of the Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt, I write and visualise how ecologies, people, materials traverse waters across so-called borders, all the while sustaining culture and life.

everyday evolutions with our nonhuman neighbours Writing for BABLab Bio-arts Festival, in Birmingham

I was invited to write an essay to accompany the programme of workshops and printed zine for BAB Lab 2022, which took place 8 – 12 Aug 2022 across different venues around Birmingham. It was a programme of 15 workshops and talks by artists working with living materials; YEAST, FUNGI, CLAY, FLORA and the BODY. I write about the openness of bioarts that resists a definition; deconstructing the criteria for expertise to get involved, and provocations for artists interested in the area.

Keynote moderation for TJ Demos 'Visualising the Ends of Growth: Insurgent Universality, Solidarity and Worlds-to-Come' and publication in The Contemporary Journal at Nottingham Contemporary

I moderated this keynote by art historian and cultural critic TJ Demos, who speculated on what comes after growth through looking into practices of Indigenous and Afrofuturism. The talk concluded 'After Growth: A Symposium on Post-Capitalist Imaginaries', which 'assembled a diverse array of visions, organisations, and initiatives to speculate on the possibility of life after growth.' The talk is also published in The Contemporary Journal at Nottingham Contemporary in the edition Emergency and Emergence (April 2022 - December 2023).

Creating Change: Seeking Climate Justice Through the Arts, Interviewed by Jamila Prowse for the British Journal of Photography

For the series 'Creating Change, Decade of Change' I was featured in the British Journal of Photography with an interview by Jamila Prowse. I discussed my research and arts practice, through examples in my long term curatorial practice under the name 'Worm: art + ecology'(2014-2021); engagements like workshop with publics as a form of climate communication, and recent research-arts project like 'Rain Paradox'(2021). I described my methods of approach, such as through the colonial history of climate change and amplifying counternarratives as a decolonial tool. I also critiqued the trend of co-opting climate arts in the secotr by institutions and pratitioners, and what it may take to be an arts sector more aligned to climate justice.

Research Report on UK Youth Air Pollution Projects for Wellcome Collection

I was commissioned to research youth-led air pollution activism in the UK to inform Wellcome Collection's public programming to the In the Air exhibition. After I completed writing this internal report, my activities were extended into events co-curation for programming a summer events centering young people around the themes of climate justice, health and air. Finding Space Speculative Fiction published for Survey II at Jerwood Arts, London, Touring to g39 Cardiff and Site Gallery, Sheffield

Finding Space is about the movement and releasing claustrophobia by sensing the environment differently. I was commissioned to write a piece of speculative fiction for the publication by Survey II, a touring exhibition by Jerwood Arts, and in relation to exhibiting artist Saelia Aparicio's work. For the exhibition closing event in London, I and other writers Leo Hermitt, Elise Bell gave readings of our piecese to an audience. The exhibition and publication toured to Cardiff and Sheffield.

The written version of our roundtable discussion is included in the selected papers that were delivered at the SFRA 2021 conference and now published in the SFRA Review, vol. 51, no. 4. Blurred Events Writing Published for The End of the Present with Arts Catalyst, The Alternative School of Economics

I wrote a piece of short fiction that takes us to a near future in which pandemic time blurs world politics. I respond to the governments increased spending in defence, in contrast to its reluctance to maintain free school meals for children in poverty during the lockdowns. It was commissioned by The Alternative School of Economics (Ruth Beale & Amy Feneck), who created a free digital publication called The End of the Present to mark the end of their residency at Arts Catalyst.

krill this love Writing Exhibited for Under a Two-moon Belief System No Duality Endures by Alice dos Reis at Trixie, The Hague

I was commissioned by Alice dos Reis to write an accompanying text for their solo exhibition at Trixie in The Hague. Resonating with the themes of finding belonging, learning about and through other species, and feeling the spaciousness that exists in, between and beyond the Earth's various landscapes, I wrote a speculative fiction, with humour, from the perspectives of the krill that the protagonist bioengineer experiments on, in Alice's own sf narrative in their film that was on exhibition. My text was exhibitied on Trixie's exterior window for pedestrian viewing. (April 2, 2021 → April 25, 2021)

Climate Action Summary Report Research Published for UNCOP26 with Julie's Bicycle

Towards UNCOP26, I worked for a year as a Policy Research consultant on international cultural and climate policy at Julie's Bicyle, a leading not-for-profit for a just green transition for the arts sector. I led and conducted desk-based research to combine data from my analysis of publicly available national arts policies of 25 ODA countries, and data from my interviews with leading international arts leaders and government ministers on climate intentions in their sectors where culture intersects (culture/tourism/education). I also supported survey design to gather data from arts and culture bodies with national mandates and cultural ministries, and synthesised insights from in-depth international roundtables that Julie's Bicycle ran as part of the research programme. This report was launched and presented to policymakers at UNCOP26 to consider arts and culture's role in the global, just, green transition. (March 23, 2021 → February 1, 2022)

History Informed Futures With Beatrice Glow Published in Vector (British Science Fiction Association)

For the Chinese SF Edition of Vector (No.293, Spring 2021), guest edited by Yen Ooi and Regina Kanyu Wang, I interviewed artist Beatrice Glow about her work with colonial histories and science fiction's capactiy to help ‘tell truthful histories and envision just futures together’. I use my term 'history informed futures' as a base that resonates with us both as artists working with historical, contemporary and sf narratives, through community collaborations and digital media technologies. I'd been an admirer of Beatrice's work for years and it was a great opportunity to engage deeply in the richness of her work and values.

Climate Change and Contemporary Chinese Science and Speculative Fiction: Invisible, Extractive and Uneven Boundaries

My paper, delivered at the London Science Fiction Research Community (LSFRC) conference 'LSFRC Conference 2020: Beyond Borders' (2020), is now published in the Science Fiction Research Association (SFRA) journal, the SFRA Review. I explore the ecological, socio-political, and cultural processes relating to climate change, with the specific context of China's type of environmentalism and I outline the thematic portrayals of climate and environmental issues in key contemporary Chinese SF stories.

Climate and Culture Beyond Borders for British Art Studies Journal

With this British Art Studies Cover Collaboration feature, which responded to the theme of 'British Art and Natural Forces' proposed by the journal’s editors, I brought together four artistic practices of Sonia E. Barrett, The Bonita Chola, Michael Leung and INTERPRT, alongside my own. They highlight diverse activities among international, socially engaged, creative practices that relate to the core conversations on justice in environmental and climate issues. My curatorial statement critiqued the meaning of 'British' arts, especially in the context of climate themes, as I reflected on the arts sector in 2020. I outlined art worker struggles in light of years of government defunding, the pandemic, Brexit and the exceptionalism on the empire trained the state to hold in face of crises.

In Conversation: Changing Realities and Speculative Fictions in the work of Cao Fei - Writing Published with Science Fiction Writers Gu Shi and Regina Kanyu Wang for Serpentine Galleries London

Commissioned as an accompanying text to Cao Fei's exhibition Blueprints at Serpentine, I was invited to create a written response to the artist's science fictional themes in her films. I extended this conversation to science fiction writers Gu Shi and Regina Kanyu Wang (also an SF editor), and together, we discussed the context of Chinese SF throughout history and today. We touched on Cao Fei's films to explore of the topics in Cao Fei's works that resonate with the authors, such as rapid industrialisation, technology, labour, and the changing shapes of interpersonal relationships throughout society.

From West to East: Re-Locating a Speculative Centre Writing Published with Ama Josephine Budge for MIT Press and Whitechapel Gallery's Science Fiction

I was invited to contribute to the Science Fiction edition of the Whitechapel: Documents of Contemporary Art series, and with a preference to co-author, I in turn invited Ama Josephine Budge to collaborate with me. Together we co-wrote an article of the conversation we had at Iniva and the Stuart Hall Library on speculative fictions. The publication, edited by Dan Byrne-Smith, is 'the first major anthology to focus on relationships between science fiction and contemporary art, with topics ranging from accelerating technological change to global urbanization.' Unfortunately the press and editor erased my name from the credits, and mistitled our article to misname our co-authorship.

Interview with Xia Jia Writing Published in Dream Babes 2.0 edited by Sin Wai Kin with a Launch Event at the Horse Hospital

I interviewed Chinese science fiction scholar and author, Xia Jia, for the SF zine Dream Babes 2.0 edited by Sin Wai Kin. In the piece, we explore narrative forms and her term 'porridge SF' that resists narrow and gendered categorisations like ‘soft SF/fantasy’ and ‘hard SF'. We also discuss to positionality of this wave of Chinese science and speculative fiction, especially by women and non-binary authors, in the context of de-canonising the western, patriarchal criteria for sf.

FOMO Collage Illustration (Self-) Published in Hitozine #1

My collage illustration for the first issue of Hitozine, a fanzine about artist Hito Steyerl, was published in a zine that features articles inspired by Hito’s practice - started off as and still is a joke. It was created on the occasion of 'FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)', a three-day talks event at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London from 29–31 May 2015.
